“DA5759's are a part of our "Clone Series" pickups.

These are replicas of the pickups that Duane originally had in his 1957 gold top and then moved to a '59 cherry burst as part of his trade conditions. For the full story on how these came to be check out the Stocktone bulletin board under "How the Duane Allman Clones came to be"

There wasn't another set of PAF pickups that caught Duane Allman's attention and ear quite like these did in the early days when he was searching for the perfect LP tone. In fact, he thought they sounded so special and magical that when he decided to trade off the gold top they had originally came in (used on Layla and the early ABB recordings) for a better looking and playing '59 cherry burst that he had one condition. He had to switch the pickups over to the '59 as part of the deal. These pickups sparked the flame that would create the genre of Southern Rock.

During the PAF era it was commonplace for some coils to get extra turns due to lack of the winders having automatic stop counters. It was also just as common for the coil wire to break before reaching the "desired" target. Add in the fact that they were using different alnico magnets and that their magnet charging process didn't charge every magnet to the same gauss strength and you have set up scenario where there is the possibility to have pickups that vary quite far from one to the next. This particular set of PAFs were the product of a perfect storm of events that enabled Duane to nail his very unique tone.

This clone set features all of the perfect storm nuances that helped create the tone that caused a southern fried psychedelic inferno. The neck pickup consists of mismatched coils that are ever so slightly overwound by vintage standards. It also has one of our aged Alnico 3 rough sandcast magnets. With your switch in the neck position, it delivers all the warm, woody and sweet you can handle. The bridge pickup is slightly underwound and houses one of our aged Alnico 5 rough sand cast magnets. Its stronger magnetic gauss pairs perfectly with the overwound but magnetically weaker neck counterpart. This bridge pickup retains its clarity at any volume and stands out in any mix. These things really excel as you push an amp to the edge of breakup. There is an undeniable magic that happens when your toggle switch is in the middle position. The sound that you get in that position can only be recreated with an overwound neck and an underwound bridge. Create your own magic with these magical sounding pickups.
